How much of your behaviour is character, and how much is situation?

John Doris · Lack of Character · 2002

B · Replicated, size uncertain

Doris reads the social-psychology record — bystander effects, Good Samaritan studies, mood and helping — as evidence that behaviour is highly situation-sensitive and that global character traits predict weakly across contexts. The claim is contested; the narrow point, that context moves behaviour more than people expect, is well supported.

ProbeName a trait you claim. Then name the situation in which you reliably do not show it.
