Reappraisal — reinterpreting what an event means before the response runs — reduces negative experience with little physiological cost. Suppression — inhibiting the expression after the response has begun — reduces visible expression but leaves or raises physiological arousal and impairs memory for the interaction.
ProbeBefore the next provocation, write one alternative meaning of the event. Then respond.
