B · Replicated, size uncertain

Across 146 studies the overall effect of expressive writing on outcomes was small, r about .075, with the clearest effects on physical health reports and smaller effects on mood. It is real, it is cheap, and it is not a treatment. The honest reading is a small average effect with wide variation, not a cure.

ProbeWrite for fifteen minutes on one unresolved event, without editing. Then write one line: what did I leave out. Do this three times, then stop.
