How much of your behaviour is organised around not feeling something?
What it argues
Psychological flexibility, the capacity to act on values while unwanted thoughts and feelings are present, is one of the better-evidenced process variables in clinical psychology. The AAQ-II measures its inverse, experiential avoidance.
The probe
Score the AAQ-II. Then find one thing you avoided this week that you would have done if the feeling had not been there.
The source
Preliminary Psychometric Properties of the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II — Frank Bond and colleagues, 2011. The link goes to the text or to a catalogue record for it, not to a summary. This one is a catalogue record: the entry gives you the question and the probe, not the argument in the author's words.
