Instruments

Under uncertainty, do you pursue or withdraw?

R. Chris Fraley, Phillip Shaver and Kelly Brennan. An Item Response Theory Analysis of Self-Report Measures of Adult Attachment, JPSP 78. 2000. instrument.

What it argues

Attachment anxiety and avoidance are measurable dimensions, not types; the ECR-R is the standard instrument. They predict how you behave when a relationship is uncertain, pursuit or withdrawal, and they are stable but not fixed.

The probe

Score the ECR-R. Recall your last three conflicts and check which dimension moved first.
